World Blindness Prevention Week
World blindness prevention week is conducted every year from 1st April to 7th April. Various preventable eye diseases such as glaucoma, vitamin-A deficiency, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and in prevention of complications of cataract, refractive errors, ocular injuries are addressed during the given time period.
In Ophthalmology OPD, AIMS the general masses (out patients and bystanders) were issued pamphlets regarding information of common eye diseases and modes of prevention of eye diseases were issued in Kannada. They were also educated regarding the importance of routine ocular examination in aged, diabetic, hypertensive patients, infants born prematurely and school eye screening. They were informed regarding the benefits of early intervention in all these eye diseases for the salvage of vision.
The entire programme was held under the guidance of Dr. H T Venkate Gowda, Professor and HOD, Department of Ophthalmology, in the presence of other faculty, students and patients. Dr. Raghavendraswamy D enlightened the audience regarding the common eye problems and modes of prevention of blindness.
Camp was conducted on 8th April 2018 at Channarayapatna and Hirisave by Dr. Madhuri. 98 patients were screened, of which 63 were admitted – 61 cataract and 2 others( pterygium and DCT) operated.
