Yoga as Medicine: Concept and Evidence
The Department Of Physiology conducted a workshop on “Yoga as Medicine: Concept and Evidence” on 30/06/2018 at BGS Auditorium, B.G. Nagara.
Dr Raghavendra Bhat, Assistant Professor, Division of Yoga and Life Sciences, S-VYASA University, Bengaluru was the resource person of the event. 120 M.B.B.S. and nursing students and around 30 interested teaching faculty members from various departments were in attendance.
Dr. M G Shivaramu, Principal, AIMS; Dr. T M Manohar, Medical Superintendent, SAH&RC; Dr. K N Narasimha Swamy, HOD of Physiology department, AIMS & Dr. Sudhir G K (Professor of Physiology, AIMS were the guests of honor.
Scientific Session: The session was divided into 2 parts: a lecture on “Yoga as Medicine: Concept and Evidence” followed by a practice session.
During his talk, the speaker gave the audience information regarding how international yoga day celebration started. He spoke about basic description of yoga in ancient literatures. He gave a deep insight into the use of yoga as a therapeutic tool by describing the physiological and psychological benefits of yoga.
This was followed by the practice session during which audience actively participated. He demonstrated various asanas and pranayama techniques and gave instructions for the audience to perform the same.
