State Level CME on Paediatric Ophthalmology


A State Level CME on Paediatric Ophthalmology was conducted on 28th June 2018 by the Department of Ophthalmology. This was the first ophthalmic CME conducted after the formation of ACU (Adichunchanagiri University).

It was a day long CME & internationally renowned specialists in the field of paediatric ophthalmology were invited to enlighten the students and faculty regarding the topic.

Welcome address was delivered by Dr. H T Venkate Gowda, Prof& Head of Ophthalmology, AIMS.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. M G Shivaramu, Principal, AIMS; Dr. H T Venkate Gowda, Prof & Head of Ophthalmology, AIMS, and the guest speakers.

                                          Guests were addressed and felicitated by the Principal Dr. M G Shivaramu.

Dr Hemanth Murthy (Medical Director, Retina Institute of Karnataka and renowned Vitreo Retinal Surgeon). He has 7 publications and over 180 presentations in national and international meetings. He has authored two chapters in The Textook of Vitreo-Retinal Disease. He has been awarded with API award for the highest marks in anatomy, Bangalore University 1986 and Rhett Buckler award for the surgical video – American Society of Retina.

Dr Chinmayee J Thrishulamurthy (Assistant Prof. at MINTO Ophthalmic hospital, BMC and RI and consultant at Nethradama Superspeciality Eye Hospital). She has been awarded the best paper in Ocular Pathology AIOC 2016 and best paper in strabismus, KOSC 2015.

Dr. Fairooz P M is a specialist in Ophthalmic Plastic surgery, Orbit and Ocular Oncology from Bangalore. She has fellowship training from LVPEI, Hyderabad, and international fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital, Shiley Eye Institute, USA, under renowned ophthalmologists. Her international accomplishments include Best Paper Award at American Academy of Ophthalmology- 2011, 2014, 2015. Best poster in AAO 2016, 2017. AAO international Achievement Award in 2015.

Dr. Pooja H V, Senior Resident, AIMS, gave a lecture on “Introduction of normal visual development in a child”.

Dr. Spoorthy, Senior Resident, AIMS, gave an elaborate explanation on “How to evaluate the vision in paediatric age group”


Dr. Hemanth Murthy gave an impressive talk on “Retinopathy of Prematurity” and its management which was useful for both Residents of Ophthalmology and Paediatrics.


Dr Fairooz spoke on new concepts regarding Retinoblastoma and other extra ocular tumors. It included various modalities of treatment with their images, case reports and outcome of treatment.


Paediatric cataracts and amblyopia one of the challenging areas in Ophthalmology was made easy by Dr. Chinmayee. The presentation included various videos, images, clinical cases and certain basic principles of management which created an ease in absorbing various concepts.


Each lecture session was followed by discussion.


Dr Vasudeva Naik,Prof & HOD,Dept of Medicine was the KMC Observer for the CME.

The programme was attended by 170 delegates, including faculties and PG s of AIMS and other institutions and under graduates.


The session was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. R Jayaram, Professor AIMS, B.G.Nagar.

Certificates were issued to all delegates with 2 credit hours as per KMC. The day long CME was filled with knowledge, wisdom and was very useful for the students.
