State Level Biochemistry CME on Nutrition and Health in “Epigenetics and Omics Era”

A State Level Biochemistry CME on “Nutrition and Health in Epigenetics and Omics Era” was conducted on 9th November 2015 by the Department of Biochemistry, AIMS.

The programme started with the functioning of 5 registration counters at 8.30 A.M. All the five speakers arrived at 8.30 A.M to the function. Breakfast was served to both speakers and delegates.

The inauguration of the CME started at 9.30 A.M in Lecture Hall- 1 AIMS. Following were the dignitaries present on the dais for the inaugural function.

Dr Prathibha K, Assistant Professor and Dr.Namitha D, Postgraduate mastered the ceremony.

The function began with the invocation song by Ms Arathi S Raj and Pournami S Raj, I MBBS Student.

Welcome address was delivered by Dr. Aliya Nusrath, Organizing Chairman.

The dignitaries on the dais were felicitated. Inauguration was done by lighting of the lamp by all the dignitaries. Dr. M G Shivaramu, Principal, AIMS chief guest of the function addressed the gathering. Dr. Dattatreya K, secretary, AMB-KC gave his valuable inputs.At the end of formal inauguration function, vote of thanks was rendered by Dr.Shilpashree Y D, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry.

Following the inauguration, scientific session started at 10.00 AM.

Topic :-Probiotics and Infectious Diseases
Speaker :-Dr. Renu Agarwal, Chief Scientist, Department of Microbiology and Fermentation Technology, CFTRI, Mysore.
This session was chaired by Dr. Vittal B G, Prof and HOD, Department of Biochemistry, HIMS, Hassan and Dr Dattatreya, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, JJMMC, Davangere. The session ended at 11.00 am following which there were interactions with the audience for 10 min. The speaker was felicitated by the chair person and the chairperson was felicitated by Dr Rajeshwari Associate Professor, Dept of Biochemistry, AIMS

Tea was served at 11.15 AM

The next scientific session started at 11.30 AM

Topic:-Diet and celiac diseases
Speaker:-Dr. U.J.S. Prasad Rao, Chief Scientist, Department of Biochemistry, CFTRI, Mysore.
This session was chaired by Dr. Shuba Jayaram, Associate Professor, MMCRI, Mysore and Dr. Shivakumar M, Professor and HOD, Department of general surgery, AIMS, B.G. Nagara, Mandya. The session ended at 12.30 pm. For another 10 min the speaker replied to all the queries raised by the delegates. The speaker was felicitated by the chairperson and the chairperson was felicitated by Mr. Somashekhar. G.N, Assistant Professor, Dept of Biochemistry, AIMS.

Next scientific session started at 12.30pm

Topic :-Can diet be a Potential  tool against cancer?
Speaker :-Dr. Shylaja M Dharmesh, Principal Scientist, Department of Biochemistry, CFTRI, Mysore
Dr Vasudha K C, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, MSRMC, Bangalore and Dr. Anil Thomas, Chairman of oncology, Department of surgical oncology, Preethi cancer center, Mysore, chaired the session. The session ended at 1.30 pm along with interactions with audience. The speaker was felicitated by the chair person and the chairperson was felicitated by Dr Asha Rani N, Assistant Professor, Dept of Biochemistry, AIMS.

Delicious lunch was served at 1.30 pm – 2.15pm

Post lunch scientific sessions started at 2.15 pm.

Topic :-Dietary Lipids as modulators of inflammation
Speaker :-Dr. Rama Prasad T R, Scientist, Department of Biochemistry, CSRI-CFTRI, Mysore
This session was chaired by Dr.Rajeshwari A, Associate Professor, Dept of Biochemistry, AIMS and Dr. Hemalatha A L, Professor and HOD, Department of Pathology, AIMS, B.G Nagara. The session ended at 3.15 pm along with interactions with audience. The speaker was felicitated by the chair person and the chairperson was felicitated by Dr Shilpashree Y D, Assistant Professor, Dept of Biochemistry, AIMS.

The final session began at 3.30 pm.

Topic :-Dietary therapeutics
Speaker :-Dr. Anu Appaiah, Principal Scientist, Department of Microbiology and Fermentation technology, CFTRI, Mysore
This session was chaired by Dr. Priyadarshini K S, Professor, Dept of Biochemistry, RRMCH, Bangalore and Dr. Aliya Nusrath, Professor and HOD, Department of Biochemistry, AIMS, B.G Nagara. The session ended at 4.15 pm along with interactions with audience. The speaker was felicitated by the chair person and the chairperson was felicitated by Mrs.Rafiya Begum, Tutor, Dept of Biochemistry, AIMS.

Panel discussion continued with the speakers. Questions were asked by audience which was clarified. This continued for about half an hour. It ended at 5.00 pm.

CME programme was concluded by valedictory note.

Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Shilpashree Y D, Assistant Professor, Dept of Biochemistry, AIMS.

Certificates were issued at 5.00 pm.

Tea with bonda was served at 5.00 pm.
