Postgraduate Orientation Programme

  • The Orientation programme was a one day event and began with registration of fresh Postgraduate students (9 – 9.30 a.m.) – by Dr. Vijaya S MEU member. This was followed by administration of a Pre-test on various scientific sessions of the orientation – by Dr. Sudhir G.K. Co-convenor MEU.
  • A formal inaugural function was held between 9.30 – 9.50 a.m. with the Principal Dr. M.G. Shivaramu as the Chief Guest & the Medical Superintendant Dr. T.M. Manohar as the Guest of honor along with the Convenor of M.E.U. Dr. Madhav K Savkar. Dr. Vinaya M., M.E.U member was the master of the ceremony.
  • Following this, an ice breaking session was held (9.50 – 10.10 a.m.) by Dr. Vijayshankar S., M.E.U. member & Dr. Mahav K Savkar for self introduction of PGs and knowing each other.
  • The scientific sessions began with Dr. T.M. Manohar who spoke on Roles and Responsibilities of Postgraduates in the college & hospital. He provided a bird’s eye view of work culture in Adichunchanagiri Hospital & College and insisted on PGs to strictly abide with the same. (10.15 -10.35 a.m.)
  • This was followed by providing an overview of the PG Curriculum as prescribed by MCI & RGUHS by the Dr. M.G. Shivaramu. Apart from mentioning the various methods adopted to train PGs, he insisted the students to develop a scholarly attitude by getting actively involved in research and development following completion of their dissertation work. (10.35- 11.05 a.m)
  • The next session began after tea at 11.20 a.m. with Dr. Shashikiran M., MEU member delivering a talk on Medical Ethics. He informed about what and why of ethics, types & principles. He ensured a clear understanding of principles of ethics by providing relevant real life situations. (11.20 – 11.50 a.m.)
  • Following this was the session by Dr. Amita K. M.E.U. member, on Subject seminar. She provided a clear understanding of what is a seminar & what are its objectives. Also gave a few tips on selection of seminar topic, its preparation & presentation, role of PG teachers & guides in effective learning through such teaching learning programmes. (11.50 a.m. – 12.30 p.m)
  • A quick reflection of the morning session by given by a few fellow Postgraduates followed by lunch. (12.30 – 1.15 p.m).
  • The post lunch session began with a refreshing melody retreat by Dr. Manu G, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology.
  • The last scientific session of the programme was on Journal club by Dr. Aliya Nusrath & Dr. N. Asharani, MEU members. A sequential build up of the concept of journal club was done with active involvement of the students, where the need for such a club & its importance in updating knowledge was discussed. Further she gave a quick overview of types of journal articles, and parts of a research paper write-up. The students were given a hands on experience to critically analyze a journal article with respect to its various components through group activities & discussion following the same. (1.25 – 2.25 p.m.)
  • A post-test and feedback of the programme was obtained followed by a formal Vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Swaroop M.R., MEU member. (2.25 – 2.45 p.m.)
  • An open house for clarification of any doubts relating to the scientific sessions or other aspects pertaining to the PG course was held between 2.45 -3.00 p.m.
  • The programme concluded with distribution of Certificates to the participants by the Principal.
