Physiology of Growth
The Department of Physiology organized a Guest Lecture on “Physiology of Growth” on 12/04/2018. Dr. Veena Umesh B; Professor of Physiology, KIMS, Bengaluru, was the guest speaker.
I M.B.B.S. students of 2017– 18 batch (152) & interested teaching faculty (25) from various departments of the institution participated in the programme.
The guests of honor of the function were the Principal in charge Dr. Venkatesha D, Dr TM Manohar (Medical Superintendent), Mr Umesh B K (Registrar), Dr. Veena Umesh B (Guest speaker), Dr Sudhir G K (In charge HOD, Physiology), Dr. Rajendra R (HOD Anatomy) & Dr. Aliya Nusrath (HOD Biochemistry) as Guests of Honor.
The purpose of the session was to provide the student learners a broad insight into the physiological aspects of growth.
The speaker started with a brief introduction on growth which was followed by step wise explanation of growth from the intrauterine to adult life. She explained the different pattern of growth at cellular level and gave a deep insight into the different factors affecting growth. More emphasis was laid on clinical aspects related to growth throughout the session.
The session was very interactive with picture clues and clinical case scenarios of different growth disorders which was appreciated well by student fraternity.
The scientific session was followed by an interaction between the students & the speaker. The students clarified their doubts on various aspects of growth like commercial growth supplements, hormones affecting growth. The speaker clarified the queries posed in a very convincing manner.
This was followed by presentation of memento to the speaker by Dr. Venkatesha D, In-charge Principal.
