Patho Workshop


Department of pathology, in association with Indian Academy of cytologists, IAC-KC and KCIAPM, organized the 2nd national hands-on cytology workshop on “cervical (pap) & head & neck lesions “on 27th and 28th October 2017. The programme was sponsored by Sri Adichunchanagiri Shikshana trust, Karnataka Chapter of Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.

       Eighty nine delegates from various hospitals and medical colleges across the country including consultants, teaching faculty and post-graduates participated in workshop.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by dignitaries including Dr M G Shivaramu Principal, AIMS; Dr Meena A Pangarkar, senior faculty & head of laboratory medicine, National Camer Institute Nagpur, who gracefully accepted to be the mentor for the workshop; Dr Manohar T M , Medical superintendent, AIMS; Dr Vijay Shankar S, Professor and head, of department of pathology, Dr Nalini Krishnan, scientific committee coordinator and Dr. B G Sagar, Observer from Karnataka Medical Council.

After the inauguration, the scientific sessions began with introduction by Dr Dharitri M Bhat.

A poster session was held on topics related to cytology wherein 15 delegates participated.

At the end of the lecture sessions of the day one, slide viewing sessions were held at the practical hall in the department of Pathology. The delegates were impressed with the quality of the slides as well as the presence of the faculty to clarify their doubts.

Day 2 of the workshop began with the introduction to workshop on Head & Neck lesions by Dr Suprita M Nayak. After the lecture sessions, a slide viewing session was arranged in the practical hall.

The first prize was awarded to Dr Tony Pechiatt, post graduate from AIMS, BG Nagara, while second and third prize was given to Asha Patil, post graduate from SSMC Davangere and Dr Gudrun Kaul, Consultant Pathologist, SRL Diagnostics, Bangalore respectively.

The CME ended successfully by an informal vote of thanks followed by collection of participant feedback forms, post test questions and distribution of certificates.

Feedback analysis revealed a groundswell of appreciation by delegates for the knowledge gained during slide viewing sessions and lecture sessions which laid more emphasis on the practical aspects. The hosts were also complimented for the hospitality accorded to the delegates and were requested to conduct such workshops in the future too.
