Community Medicine State Level CME

The Department of Community Medicine conducted a state level CME on 25 April 2015.

On the occasion of World Health Day 2015, we, at the department of Community Medicine had organized a State level CME on “Food Safety”, the theme for the year 2015.

A state level, one day CME on Food Safety was organized on 05.05.2015. Speakers included scientists from CFTRI, Mysuru, Entomologist from Mandya, Scientist from PHI, Bengaluru & Officials from Milk Dairy, Channarayapatna.

Dr Shashikiran.M, Assoc Prof & I/C HOD, welcomed the gathering & Dr Shivaramu M.G, Principal, A.I.M.S honored the guest speakers. There were three sessions in all chaired by Dr Sundar M, Prof & HOD, Dept of Community Medicine, Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, Hassan, Dr Renuka M, Prof & HOD, Dept of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College, Mysooru & Dr Vinay M, Assoc Prof, Dept of Community Medicine, Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences, Mandya.

Dr Sumana M, Asst Professor, Dept of Community Medicine, Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, Hassan was the Observer nominated by Karnataka Medical Council.

The first speaker was Dr Siddegowda, Prof of Entomology, Agricultural Research Station, V.C.Farm, Mandya, who spoke about use of pesticides in food, their permissible limits & methods to detect & avoid their use. Second and third speakers were Scientists (Dr A.G.Gopalakrishna, Chief Scientist & Dr Asha Martin, Senior Scientist, Dept of Traditional foods) from Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysooru, who spoke about traditional foods & methods to detect food poisoning & to avoid them.

Fourth speaker was Dr Shivakumar.H.S, Joint Director, Public Health Institute, K.R. Circle, Bengaluru who spoke on Food Safety & Security Act of India & Methods of food adulteration & its prevention. He also played a video on adulteration prevention. The last speaker was Mr. Prakash Shetty, Deputy Manager, KMF High Tech Milk Diary, Channarayapattna, who spoke about the key aspects of milk hygiene. He also played a 15 minute video with commentary by well-known cine & television actress, Mrs Aparna.

All the sessions were followed by a volley of questions to which all the speakers addressed effectively.
