Anti-Leprosy Day – Free Skin Camp 2019
On the occasion of National Anti-leprosy day and Martyr’s day (Sarvodaya day) on 30th January 2019, Department of Dermatology organized a ‘free skin camp and Leprosy screening’ at Government General Hospital, K R Pete.
The chief guest for the inaugural function was Sri. K C Narayana Gowda, MLA, K.R.Pete. other dignitaries included Dr. M. G. Shivaramu, Dean of Health Sciences, ACU & Principal, AIMS; Dr T. M. Manohar, Medical Superintendent, SAH&RC; Sri. Somashekhar, RMO, AIMS; Dr. Harish, THO, K.R. Pete; Dr. Mache Gowda, DHO, Mandya; Dr. Ashwath, ALO, Mandya; Sri. Sudhakar, Circle Inspector, K. R. Pete. Department of Dermatology, AIMS was represented by Dr. M R Swaroop, Professor & in charge HOD; Dr. Mouryabha Shale, Assistant Professor; Dr. N P Umashankar, Senior Resident and post graduates.
The inaugural function commenced at 10.45 am. A two-minute silence was observed between 11 am and 11.02 am, by the dignitaries and the gathering as a mark of respect for Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary.
The gathering was then addressed by Sri K C Narayana Gowda who highlighted the importance of eliminating the social stigma associated with Leprosy. Dr M.G Shivaramu stressed on the importance of early detection and prompt treatment of Leprosy
The inaugural function was followed by a rally through the main streets of K R Pete town by the 6th term MBBS students and Dermatology postgraduate students of Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences. Nursing students of Adichunchanagiri College of Nursing also participated in the rally. Through the rally, pamphlets were distributed among the general public which contained information about Leprosy and myths associated with it. With this we tried to create awareness among the public that Leprosy is curable.
Around 100 patients with skin diseases were treated by our Doctors. These patients were also screened for Leprosy. Free drugs were distributed to them and were asked to come for follow up at our Hospital.
